Joint Task Force kills 6 Boko Haram militants, recover weapons
Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) on Operation ‘Gama Aiki’ in the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) region have ambushed and killed six Boko Haram militants and recovered weapons and ammunitions.
A statement from MNJTF spokesman, Colonel Muhammad Dole, said yesterday that troops of Sector 1 in Makary, Cameroun, Sector 3 Baga, Nigeria; Sector 2 Bagasola Chad and Sector 4 in Diffa, (Niger) are making spirited efforts to consolidate on recent successes recorded in the battle field against Boko Haram militants.
Colonel Dole said the efforts were focused at laying ambushes against terrorists and conducting patrols to block all identified logistic supply routes in the Area of Responsibility (AOR).
He said ambushes by troops near Yoyo village around Kekeno and other areas north of Kukawa resulted in the killing of six militants, while others fled with severe injuries.
He said: “Some quantity of arms and ammunitions such as one GPMG, five AK 47 rifles, six 60mm Mortar Bombs, four RPG Bombs, two magazines, twenty one rounds of 7.62mm special, one unprimed IED, three IED Chargers and ten Motorcycles were recovered at the sites.”
He said during the operations, eight wounded soldiers promptly evacuated by Nigerian Air Force aircraft to nearby medical centre and were in stable condition.
Dole added that the troops equally seized consignments of logistic materials and assorted drugs during the ambushes.
The items include 48 jerry cans of PMS, four rolls of cloth (unsewn BHT uniform), drugs and beverages, including the vehicles conveying them, he said.
He also said a group of fishermen in Tumboun Alli village arrested two Boko Haram militants with two concealed AK 47 rifles as they were trying to escape from the area and handed them over to the troops of Sector 1 Makary, Cameroun.
Dole said the Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Lamidi Adeosun commended the effort of the fishermen and urged other communities living along the border areas to emulate them and continue to cooperate with the troops.
